The Rongai Route is a less crowded alternative to the Marangu Route, offering a quieter and more scenic ascent. This 7-day itinerary begins on the mountain’s northern side, allowing for a gradual acclimatization. You’ll traverse diverse ecosystems, including rainforests, heath, alpine deserts, and glaciers. The Rongai Route is suitable for climbers of varying fitness levels, with challenging sections and opportunities for rest and relaxation.
Highlights of 7 Days – Kilimanjaro Climb (Rongai Route)
Day 1: Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to a comfortable lodge in Arusha, where you’ll rest and prepare for the climb.
Day 2: Begin your trek at Rongai Gate, following the only route that approaches Kilimanjaro from the north—Trek through forests to Simba Camp.
Day 3: Ascend through the moorland to Second Cave Camp, where you’ll enjoy views of Kibo Peak and the Kenyan plains.
Day 4: Continue trekking to Kikelelwa Camp, with stunning views of the wilderness and surrounding ridges.
Day 5: Reach Mawenzi Tarn Camp, nestled beneath the spectacular Mawenzi peaks, for acclimatization and rest.
Day 6: Trek to Kibo Hut, your base camp for the final ascent. Spend the afternoon resting before the midnight summit attempt.
Day 7: Begin your ascent to Uhuru Peak at midnight, reaching the summit at sunrise. After celebrating at the top, descend to Horombo Hut for the night.
