The Marangu Route, also known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” is the most popular and easiest of the Kilimanjaro climbing routes. This 6-day itinerary offers a gradual ascent, allowing for acclimatization and a higher chance of summit success. You’ll traverse lush rainforests, moorlands, alpine deserts, and glaciers before reaching the summit of Uhuru Peak—the Marangu Route suits climbers of varying fitness levels with well-maintained trails, huts, and porters.
Highlights of 6 Days – Mt. Kilimanjaro Climb (Marangu Route)
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Arusha for a pre-climb briefing and an overnight stay.
Start the trek from Marangu Gate, walking through the rainforest to Mandara Hut, where you can spot the colobus monkeys.
Continue to Horombo Hut, passing through moorland and enjoying the striking views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.
Spend an extra day at Horombo Hut for acclimatization. Enjoy optional hikes around the area to improve your chances of reaching the summit.
Ascend to Kibo Hut, your base for the final summit attempt. Rest and prepare for the midnight trek to the summit.
Start your trek to Uhuru Peak at midnight, aiming to reach the summit by sunrise. After celebrating at the top, descend to Horombo Hut for a well-deserved rest.
Finish your descent through the rainforest to Marangu Gate, where a vehicle will transfer you back to Arusha for relaxation.
