This 8-day itinerary begins on the mountain’s western side, allowing for a quieter and more secluded experience. You’ll traverse diverse ecosystems, including rainforests, heath, alpine deserts, and glaciers. The Lemosho Route suits climbers of varying fitness levels, focusing on a gradual ascent and descent to minimize altitude sickness.
Highlights of 8-Day Kilimanjaro Climb (Lemosho Route)
Day 1: Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your lodge in Arusha for a pre-climb briefing and overnight stay.
Day 2: Start your trek from Lemosho Gate through lush rainforests, encountering wildlife as you trek to Mti Mkubwa Camp (Big Tree).
Continue to Shira 1 Camp, crossing the scenic moorland and enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes.
Trek to Shira 2 Camp, where the wide-open views and a relatively easy hike allow for acclimatization.
Ascend to Lava Tower for acclimatization before descending to Barranco Camp—an important part of the “climb high, sleep low” strategy.
You can tackle the famous Barranco Wall and trek to Karanga Camp, where the high-altitude desert offers stunning, serene views.
Reach Barafu Camp, your base for the final push. Rest and prepare for the midnight summit attempt.
Begin your summit trek to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) at midnight, aiming to reach the summit at sunrise. Celebrate your achievement before descending to Mweka Camp for the night.
Complete the descent to Mweka Gate, where you’ll be transferred back to your lodge in Arusha for relaxation or onward travel.
